It’s springtime at America’s Cardroom, and the flagship site of the Winning Poker Network is serving up a different tourney series in mid-April. It’s the return for early 2018 of the “High Five Tournament Series,” which will run from April 18 through April 22 at ACR.
As you might expect, the number five plays in a big way in the upcoming series. It’s a 5×5 series offering, meaning five tournaments on each of the five consecutive days. And there’s big money at stake: America’s Cardroom has guaranteed over $1.5 million in prize money over the series’ five-day run.
While the 25 events in the High Five series will include only the mainstays on online-tourney play — No-Limit Hold’em and Omaha — there will be quite a few game variations offered. According to ACR, “Our tournament staff made a joint decision to bring you all types of structures you enjoy. They include regular, rebuy/add-on, turbos and mega stack hyper turbos, and knockouts.” (The complete schedule for the High Five Series is appended at the bottom.)
There’s a focus on the “high” here as well. As ACR states:
The series comes to a head with a $420+$30 buy-in $420,000 Main Event! In the interest of keeping with all things 420, every day throughout the series we’ll take a 10 minute “courtesy break” at 4:20 pm ET so players can take a breather (so to speak).
Well, that’s being blunt about it, no doubt.
Here are the series highlights:
- Over $1,500,000 in guaranteed prize money spread out over 5 days;
- $420,000 Guaranteed Main Event on Sunday, April 22nd at 4:00pm ET;
- “Courtesy” break at 4:20pm ET every day.
That big $420,000 High Five main event on Sunday, April 22 also appears to be in addition to the regular Million Dollar Sundays tourney also offered that day, meaning it’ll be a big, big day overall at ACR.
As a side note, another site has announced that those popular Million Dollar Sundays events are scheduled to continue at ACR for the foreseeable future. That’s despite the fact that ACR has paid out more than $1.7 million in overlays on all the MDS tourneys combined to date in 2018’s first three months. ACR does recoup some of that in tourney fees, about $500,000 worth, but just this year ACR has a $1.2 million MDS writeoff as an ongoing promotional expense.
Lots of poker players would call that persistent overlay a great tourney value. We’ll leave that determination up to you.
